Honoring 250 Years of Marine Corps Excellence at the World Equestrian Center

This past weekend, the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation proudly partnered with the World Equestrian Center (WEC) in Ocala, Florida, for Armed Services Night, a spectacular evening dedicated to honoring the 250th anniversary of the United States Marine Corps. This unforgettable event blended the thrilling sport of show jumping with a deep appreciation for the service and sacrifice of our nation’s Marines.

A Night to Remember

The evening was centered around the $200,000 Armed Services Grand Prix CSI4*, an elite international competition featuring top equestrians. But before the competition kicked off, the event paid tribute to the Marine Corps in several powerful ways, immersing attendees in the history and legacy of the Corps.

"Armed Services Night was one to remember!" wrote the World Equestrian Center in their event recap. "We joined the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation in celebrating 250 years of the United States Marine Corps with the U.S. Marine Corps Color Guard, Caisson Horses, an epic parachute display, and a live national anthem by country star Chris McNeil—all before the $200,000 Grand Prix CSI4."* (Read more here.)

Marine 250 Takes Center Stage

Throughout the night, elements of the Marine 250 campaign were on full display, reinforcing the mission of this once-in-a-lifetime anniversary celebration.

• The Marine 250 Jump

• A standout moment of the evening was seeing the Marine Corps 250-branded horse jump in action. This signature obstacle, which will remain in the arena for the entire 2024 competition season, is a striking symbol of strength, determination, and the values that define the Corps.

• The Marine Corps Color Guard

• The Color Guard presented the colors with precision and discipline, setting the tone for an evening filled with patriotism and pride. Their presence ensured that the event was not only a celebration of equestrian excellence but also a heartfelt tribute to those who serve.

• A Breathtaking Flag Fly-In

• As the National Anthem played, all eyes turned to the sky as a stunning flag fly-in took place, further honoring the Marines and the nation they serve. This breathtaking moment added to the event’s emotional and patriotic atmosphere.

• The Marine Corps Birthday Cake Cutting

• Keeping with tradition, Marine Corps Heritage Foundation President & CEO, MajGen James Lukeman, USMC (Ret.), had the honor of cutting the official Marine Corps birthday cake. The cake-cutting ceremony, a cherished symbol of Marine camaraderie and heritage, connected past and present Marines in a shared legacy of service.

The World Equestrian Center’s commitment to celebrating the Marine Corps' 250th anniversary was evident throughout the night. From heartfelt tributes to powerful displays of Marine Corps excellence, the event was a fitting reminder of 250 years of service, sacrifice, and commitment.
