Jon Corzinejon corzine

Governor, U.S. Senator, Business Leader | Hoboken, New Jersey

Jon Corzine’s journey from the Reserve Corps to the corridors of power highlights a lifetime defined by leadership and impact. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve in 1969 during a critical moment in American history, serving until 1975 and rising to the rank of sergeant. His service fostered a disciplined mindset that would shape every chapter of his career.

After earning a bachelor’s from the University of Illinois and an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, Corzine rose to power at Goldman Sachs, becoming a partner at 33 and eventually serving as CFO and chairman during the firm’s transition to a public company.

Turning toward public service, Corzine was elected U.S. Senator for New Jersey in 2001. During his term, he actively served on committees for Banking, Intelligence, Foreign Relations, Budget, and Energy, playing a key role in legislation like Sarbanes-Oxley and championing initiatives for healthcare, veterans, and education. In 2006, he became New Jersey’s 54th Governor, instituting pay-as-you-go budgeting, abolishing the death penalty, expanding family leave and early childhood education, and cutting the state budget by $4.5 billion while investing in infrastructure and social programs.

After his political career, Corzine led MF Global beginning in 2010 and later founded a global hedge fund in addition to serving on academic and civic boards including Princeton and Covenant House, which offers safe housing, and mental health, wellness, and life counseling for homeless youth including victims of human trafficking.
