Leading the state’s foremost Marine veterans service organization, he organizes commemorative events, coordinates community outreach, and advocates for the welfare of Marines across South Dakota. His leadership helps ensure that no Marine is ever left behind and that the Corps’ traditions of honor and camaraderie are alive for future generations.

Hailing from Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Major General Mark A. “Droopy” Clark built a 33-year career in the United States Marine Corps defined by operational excellence and historic leadership. He earned a B.S. in commercial economics from South Dakota State University in 1980 and was commissioned as a second lieutenant the following year after completing Officer Candidate School. In 1983, he earned his naval aviator wings and began flying CH-53 Super Stallion and MH-53J Pave Low helicopters in major combat operations, including Operation Desert Storm and Operation Deliberate Force in Bosnia.

Clark brought Marine values to the world of U.S. special operations, serving in key joint roles such as with the Air Force’s 20th Special Operations Squadron, SOCOM’s Joint Operations Center in Qatar, and later as Director of Operations (J3) and Chief of Staff at U.S. Special Operations Command. In 2012, he became the first aviator to command Marine Forces Special Operations Command (MARSOC), where he championed cultural readiness and joint-force integration, shaping MARSOC into a “responsive, networked global force.”

Since retiring from active duty, Clark has continued to serve the Marine Corps and national security community in both business and nonprofit roles. He is the founder of Resolute Solutions LLC, a defense and leadership consultancy in Apollo Beach, Florida, and co-owner of Droopy Drawers LLC, a St. Petersburg-based athletic apparel company. He is a senior advisor at Navigators Global, where he provides strategic insight on Marine Corps and special operations policy.

Clark’s dedication to service continues through his involvement on several nonprofit and corporate boards. He serves on the Board of Directors for the Special Operations Warrior Foundation, which provides full educational support and family services to the children of fallen special operators and Medal of Honor recipients—ensuring those who gave everything are never forgotten. He also serves on the Marine Raider Association Board, helping preserve the legacy, history, and brotherhood of Marine special operations forces while supporting today’s active-duty Raiders and their families.

As a board member of Warriors Ethos, Clark champions efforts to help transitioning service members and veterans find meaningful civilian careers and purpose beyond the uniform. He also brings his aviation and operational experience to the Air Center Helicopters Board, supporting critical government and humanitarian aviation missions around the world. On the Klas Telecom Government Board, he advises on advanced communications solutions used by deployed military and first responders in some of the world’s most demanding environments.
